Pilates Mat

Pilates matwork is the basic and primary form of exercise based on the method introduced by its founder, Joseph Pilates.

It concerns a series of exercises executed on a mat in a slow, controlled manner, combined with breath control. This way stabilization and strengthening of the deep core muscles is achieved, while at the same time coordination of the limbs, flexibility, focus and total body strengthening is developed.

Moreover, a very important benefit of the Pilates practice is the development of a better posture. By strengthening the core muscles and acquiring a better mobility of the spine and pelvic area, body posture is significantly improved. This way, myoskeletal problems such as lordosis, kyphosis and scoliosis can be improved or even eliminated to the point that they no longer affect the quality of everyday life.

Often, in a Pilates class we use props (i.e. light equipment, such as tubes, bands, rings, foam rollers, etc.), the use of which provides either extra support, or special adaptation of an exercise on a body with musculoskeletal imbalance/injury, or even additional difficulty in performing the exercise routine.
